Plains, Trains, and Automobiles

I’m looking to buy a car…

these have caught my eye…

Volkswagen Jetta

Volkswagen Passat

any advice?

the only problem is most of these cars are in tenn or florida :( why are the best cars so far away? plane tickets aren’t as cheap as i thought they’d be either.

Update: two sources today informed me that Volkswagens tend to break easily after 60-70 thousand miles & yes they are very expensive to fix :( guess i’m not buying one… too bad, they’re so cute :)

Last night was graduation. As i rushed over to school, eating a piece of surgie’s pizza on the way, i was thinking how nice it would be to be graduating with all my friends this year. It would mean no more getting up at 6 30 for high school, no more living at home, and no more gym class. I would be free from all the obstacles one faces in high school. It would be great.

As i entered the auditorium there  was a slide show of the graduates playing, showing pictures of them from kindergarten to this past semester. It brought back so many memories… i thought of how i would miss those people profusely. For those few moments i was glad that i still had one more year, even if it would be without these friends.

After the ceremony i congratulated a few of people and got a picture with this amazing girl, who is attending Fairfield University in Massachusetts this fall.

As i entered the door at the Tomford’s abbey attacked me with a burst of energy and drool. We chased her through the kitchen, over the couch, into the family room and back… it took us about 5 minutes to catch her and lock her in her cage. I guess my housemate already had her share of chasing animals that night, as she told me how the sheep followed her into the chicken pen and caused the chickens to all run out into the pasture. Huh, rough night.

After we had abbey caged, things went smoothly for a while. We ate java chip ice cream, and watched freedom writers – after we got the t.v. to stop making this annoying static sound. We talked for about an hour after the movie was over then decided it was time to hit the hay.

About ten minutes after i went to bed, i heard some noise coming from the other room. After listening for a while i realized i was carina talking. I thought, she wouldn’t be talking on the phone at this hour, besides she hates  talking on the phone; maybe she was reading her bible out loud? that’s weird. As i listened closer i heard the words, “galaxy soap…. in just one week have smooth soft skin…” At this point i thought she was talking in her sleep so i went to check it out.

When i walked through the doorway to the living room she looked up at me with her play book in her hand and said, “sorry, i just had a panic attack when i realized i have to be off the book in 5 days…”

House Sitting

This morning i woke up in a strange house to the noise of carina rummaging around outside my bedroom. Not two minutes later an orange tiger cat slipped through my almost closed door and let out a highly annoying Meew.

I got up and saw carina walking towards abbey’s cage and followed, only to have her go back towards the house to put on her “barn boots.” Then we proceeded to the barn and found that the animals had somehow forced entrance into the building… unable to figure out how, we herded them back into their pasture while the little goat cried in the background to be fed. We then completed a perimeter run to look for any broken fences and such, but were unable to find any. We did however notice a door pushed open a bit and figured that must be where the animals got in. Then we found chicken out of place as well, it was black unlike the brown and white chickens in the hen coop. Carina said that it must have survived the coyote attack that got all the other black chickens. we didn’t know what to do with it so it was left in the barn. After that we realized we had put the cows in the wrong pasture so carina herded them out and i made sure they went into <i> their</i> pasture and not into the lawn…”The Tomfords said this would be easy,” i heard carina say.

After the animals were fed we ate some home-made granola and rhubarb pie for breakfast… a much deserved reward :)

Day One

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:25 am by alexis

I passed all my regents! haha… and school is finally over!

Yesterday after the test some friends, my sister and i went to Angelo’s in Potsdam for lunch. It was really good, definitely a nice change from the hometown.  It was fun to hang out with these three again… there were numerous jokes about Micheal’s allergies.. to everything!(well only: nuts, strawberries, bananas, bees, and grass…) and of course a few jokes about Natalie, just because i love her :P My sister seemed to be in another world the whole meal, not surprising ;) It seemed to take forever to get our meals.. But we discovered that the ice cubes had perfect holes in the center to pic up with a straw and then emily kept putting her ice cubes in my glass. Like always, the food was amazing.

After Angelo’s we drove over to Scoops for some ice cream.. like i needed it. I got coffee ice cream in a waffle cone, Justin got coconut gelato- interesting, and emily got a bubble gum flavorburst- i think she’s been getting that since she was five, gross :P We sat outside on the porch overlooking the street and talked for an hour or so about graduation tonight, summer plans, and our english reading assignment over vacation.

That night I had a lifeguard meeting… it got me really excited to work this summer! i love that job.  After that there was au capella practice.

But the best part of my night was listening to Carina sing with the Taffetas, then going back to her house for a bit. She sounded amazing, i can’t wait to hear her in the musical! At her house, we ate some homemade strawberry shortcake of some sort and talked for a bit and then gathered around her lap top in the kitchen for some music. Jamie was working on this drum line from destiny’s child “lose my breath,” which turned into a half an hour of singing and dancing to 90’s music. It was nice :P I put josh’s hair in a ponytail.. he looked like a sumo wrestler- haha. then we debated over the meaning of the word on his shirt… it said” If you don’t think i’m cute, you have a bad imagination.” Jamie and i agreed that it meant people would need a good imagination to think he’s cute, implying he really isn’t. Of course josh argued that it meant he was cute… i didnt really understand his explanation, but it was wrong anyway :P

Danica came into the kitchen at some point cradling baby jameson in her arms, he kept looking at me with those gorgeous blue eyes. i think he was half asleep, but it was enchanting all the same. i realize how much i am going to miss them. They’re starting a whole new life in California and their journey begins today. Before i left, i said goodbye to both of them.

Signs of Summer

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:28 am by alexis

::. Today marks the beginning of the last 3 testing days of school. finally. At 1 15 i’ll be taking the us history regents, followed by physics review tomorrow at 8 30 and the physics regents Thursday at the same time… the downfall of having tests two weeks after the last day of classes is how unofficial and unimportant they appear. by this time, no one is thinking about school anymore, they’re all focusing on summer.

::. For two nights in succession i have successfully gotten over 12 hrs of sleep… is that good or bad?

::. Yesterday were my senior pictures, and surprisingly they were fun. A few of them turned out nice… however in most of the pictures my eyes are half alseep. i attribute that to the parties i went to this weekend, the late nights, and being sick that morning.

::. I obtained my first sunburn of the summer last weekend, even though i used sunscreen. I guess among the sea-doing, swimming, and volly-ing i lost track of time and should have re-applied. It was a blast though, something i would do every weekend if given the chance.

::. CFA Graduation was really nice. I liked that there were only 6 seniors opposed to 60 or so. It was a lot more personal and engaging. The speeches were all excellent, as was Pastor Mike’s message. Mr. Sinclair’s face was priceless through parts of the ceremony. Congratulations to all of you who graduated!

::. My parents are in Boston the next couple days looking at a hospital (St. John’s maybe??) or rather evaluating the doctor who would be preforming corrective surgery for my father’s epilepsy next winter. I hope everything goes well.

::. I start lifeguarding at the Waddington Town Beach July 1st!! Hours are 12:00pm-8:00pm… You all better come visit :D

Just for the record… a lenghty record

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:00 am by alexis

…it’s 11:30pm June 6th, 2007. However, it might not be by the time i’m done writing :) At 4:00 this morning, just about the time some of you were getting home from a long weekend in nyc, i offcially became 17. I had a pretty good birthday, one could say.

I got out of bed around 6:30 and headed immediately down stairs to start the ancient coffee pot my parents never use to provide me with some much needed french vanilla roast. Unfortunately, judging by the temperature of the air blowing from micaela’s room (she left her widow open and fan on the night before, silly girl) i could tell today was going to be unpleasantly chilly. Contrary to most mornings, this didn’t affect my decision in dressing myself, thanks to the cute outfit beana bought me for my birthday… the ribbon on the package it was wrapped in even matched my hair! yey!-haha.

School wasn’t so bad today… mostly because i only went to the first 4 periods ;)

First period i had driver’s ed. today was my road test counting 50% of my final grade. Jordan drove first… Even though i had already taken a real road test, twice actually, i was still nervous driving through it this time. Overall, i did well. Mrs Stockwell marked me off for 2 things, worth 3 points each: failure to keep left during a left turn (a trivial rule if you ask me.. what this means is i wasn’t close enough to the yellow line before i turned left onto another road.) and excessive space used for the parallel park. So i got a 94%.

Second period consisted of a collage of math final presentations… George Martin explained the mathematics in harmonics & demonstrated with his electric guitare; John Martin explained the mathematics in video gaming graphics, i.e. lots of verticies, matricies and calculations.. unless you a have a sweet program that does them for you like john did; Micheal O.B. presented the mathematics related to basketball, his best point was explaining the differences in girls hands and boys hands to the ratio of ball sizes and the size of the hoop to support the statement, “that’s why jenny can’t make a layup and i can-” if you know jenny, you’ll understand why this is funny; lastly, Molly Gates explained, or rather made a video that explained mathematics in nature, such as how the Fibonacci number presents it’s self in flowers.

What to do…

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:07 am by alexis

Today was not a good day. Surprisingly, it wasn’t the 5 hour SAT this morning that did it for me… that went well actually. It really didn’t seem like it was 5 hours long, or even very draining, somehow it seemed much earlier than 1:10 when we were finished. Maybe it was Julia’s smiling face looking up at me from across the table, or that this was the second time I’ve taken this college aptitude test… did you know that SAT doesn’t even stand for something anymore?

Anyways… after the test I drove to Scoops to grab something to eat. To my delight, I felt great… like it was any other Saturday. I checked my cell and there was a voicemail… it was from my mother. She left a message in an aggravated tone asking where I was since she needed to pick up Mackenzie (a good friend of my sister’s and the family who moved to Bloomington- that’s near Saranac Lake,) sometime today, preferably sooner than later – looking back over the day, that’s when things started going down hill… Hadn’t she remembered she told me to drive myself to my SAT this morning? I called her back and explained that the test had just gotten done with and I would be home in a half hour – her tone was annoyed and defensive— mine may I have been too in response, I don’t remember… but somehow that seems rather natural lately.

When I arrived at home, the lawn was mowed, but the house was still as in shambles as when I had left that morning, that aggravated me as my sisters and mom where supposed to pick up around the house – besides the bathroom which is under my care— especially so Mackenzie could come over today.

Maybe this seems critical of me, maybe it is… but I prefer the house to be clean when company comes over, and am disappointed when people don’t finish what they claim they’re going to finish. And this was one thing that needed to be done, it seems as though our house is never clean!

But anyway, I didn’t comment on the state our home; instead I sat down and ate my turkey wrap from Scoops. Before long, my mom and I had gotten into an argument over something… I don’t even remember what… maybe it wasn’t so much an argument as a few harsh words exchanged. After she left I was already feeling remorse for what I had said… maybe things would be better when she came home. Read the rest of this entry »

verses on Friendship

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:28 pm by alexis

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17

A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24

He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends. Proverbs 17:9

Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins. Proverbs 10:12

its the end of the year… that means time to sign yearbooks…

i really realized the past few days while doing this, how blessed i’ve been with great friends. some are going off to college next fall & i will miss them all dearly. it seems as if our time together was too short. there is so much i want to say to them before they go.

the ones that are staying, i am making a priority to spend time with before we go our separate ways…

some other verses that made an impression on me:

this verse i left for liz… it reminded me of her, she’s amazing :)

27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act.

28 Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back later; I’ll give it tomorrow”– when you now have it with you.

29 Do not plot harm against your neighbor, who lives trustfully near you.

30 Do not accuse a man for no reason– when he has done you no harm.

31 Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways,

32 for the Lord detests a perverse man but takes the upright into his confidence.

33 The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous.

34 He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble.

35 The wise inherit honor, but fools he holds up to shame.     Proverbs 3:27-35

 this one carina showed me:

Lord make me know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that i may know how frail i am.   Psalms 39:4
